Scary Dan's review, the sequel.

tonight was a veeeeeeeeeery different animal than last night. like someone elses pet. i just wasn't warming to the opening songs. your freakishly accurate prediction for space dog got me going though. fun fun fun! her organ was fucked. i was waiting for her to pun on organ, what with the whole sensuality thing she's so big on...is it wrong to be disappointed that a crude joke is apparently above her?

and a new addition, which made my night. i've been told that i'm sappy/crazy/ridiculous for liking the song so much, but it being the one song (apart from 'ireland' for sheer curiosity's sake) from "the beekeeper" that i wanted to hear live "martha's foolish ginger" was fantastic. sparkly even. yes, yes, here it comes, sorry to disappoint you molly - OMG! :)

busting out an australian band in the piano bar has possibly endeared her to us forever. my only question is why wasn't INXS's "need you tonight" on 'strange little girls'? high falutin' intertextually driven social commentary is all very well, but really...it doesn't have to be boring. that said, "rattlesnakes" tonight was nice.

we were treated to a live soundcheck before "marys of the sea", which was thrilling to all us people who geek off over technichal biz. which i understand could well have been just me. not that there was a lot of it, mind, but a wannabe tech nerd has gotta take what he can get. then "marys" was just thrilling. "jackie's strength" was great in that i left the theatre actually remembering what the performance was like. when i saw this in london in '03, the only reason i can remember that i heard it is because there are a buttload of internet posted setlists and bootlegs out there proving the fact that she did indeed play it.

now you know those people who scream out at the first note she plays because they immediately recognise it as one of their favourite songs. or maybe they just want to scream, i don't know. but i was that person (the former, not the latter) when she started "spring haze". i love 'venus' a lot (why wouldn't you?) and to hear this...yeah, it was great. darker than i expected. what? tori? dark? never! :P

i'm potentially opening myself up to a buttload of flaming here, but i don't need to hear "the beekeeper" again.

the encores just flew by, in the way that mesmerising things do. "butterflies" isn't necessarily saccharine apparently. who would have thought? "knickers" was just fascinating, i don't know why. but it was. and as much as i love the band, "damage" solo craps on "damage" with the band.

also, as much as i love my friend cath, but anyone who leaves a show with a set like that saying. "oh man that was boring i fell asleep" deserves to have wasted their $110.

what brisbane will get, i've no idea, but if i i e e e turns up (yeah, right), i know one person who will be incontainably excited. people at the brisbane show, that hysterically screaming girl is my friend renee and it's her birthday so humour her, please.
